TREES FOR TOMORROW...THE #1 TREE GRANT RECIPIENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR 2013

October 1st, 2012

Palmetto Pride Grant announcement on October 1,  verifies that our efforts paid off! In our first year of operation, we were the #1 tree grant recipient in the state of South Carolina! It took a lot of work to get all of our paperwork in order – but each applying entity/project under our grant application got their written plans to me in time for the deadline.

Our next order of business is to arrange a caravan of appropriate vehicles to go to Columbia on October 24 to pick up our 414 four to six foot trees in five gallon buckets and transfer them back to Todd’s facility, where we will store them and water them til our distribution date near Arbor Day.

As soon as we find out what date the 2000 Forestry Commission trees will be ready for pickup – we will have to arrange another caravan and set our Tree Pickup and Planting Party with an email blast and followup phone call alert. We will schedule this party for a Sunday after church at the open lot between my store and Russell’s. In case of inclement weather we will move across the street to the Hot Fish Club Gazebo or the covered front porch at Fuego.

We also need to schedule our “Importance Of Trees” seminars at area schools and prepare an educational brochure for each tree to be given to students. I would like for all these seminars to take place between November 1 and the Thanksgiving School Break.

We can also (casually – with no deadline looming!) begin talking to schools, parks, churches, HOA’s, etc. about making plans for next year’s grant application. On the very day that grant applications are allowed, we will have our plans in hand and delivered to the Palmetto Pride office to ensure that we are first in line for next year’s trees!
